"Clueless" actress Stacey Dash files to run for Congress

2018.02.27 03:29

Does Stacey Dash want to dash to D.C.?

The actress, best known for her role as Dionne in Clueless, filed paperwork on Monday to create a campaign committee for a run in Californias 44th congressional district. The district in Southern California has been in Democratic hands since redistricting back in 2012.

Its a long road from Washington, though. Dash still needs to submit paperwork to get on the primary ballot, according to the Los Angeles Times. And then shed have to be one of the top two candidates in the primary to make it to the November midterm election (thanks, jungle primary system).

The seat is currently held by Democratic freshman Rep. Nanette Barragan.

Dash hinted at a political future on Twitter earlier this month.

Stacey Dash:A number of people online and off have suggested I run for political office. I wanted to see what my online community thinks of this idea as I mull the possibilities. Thoughts?

Dash has said she voted for Barack Obama in 2008, but then decided to support Mitt Romney in 2012 because she wanted "the next four years to be different." She faced backlash for supporting Romney.
