Star Wars: "It’s time for the Jedi to end"

2017.04.17 09:01

Star Wars fans around the world let out a collective cheer Friday as the first trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” was released.

Disney Studios hauled in over $7 billion in global ticket sales in 2016, thanks in part to the success of the J.J. Abrams-directed hit “Rogue One.” A taste of Rian Johnson’s take on famous characters such as Mark Hammill’s “Luke Skywalker” and Daisy Ridley’s “Rey” was unveiled at Celebration Orlando and then on social media.

“I only know one truth,” Mr. Hammill’s famous character says in narration. “It’s time for the Jedi to end.”

Clips from the trailer include Luke Skywalker instructing Rey in the use of “the force,” the Millennium Falcon made famous by director George Lucas and various military engagements between The Rebel Alliance and The Empire.

Studio heads are hoping “The Last Jedi” will equal or surpass the success of “Rogue One,” which took in $155 million domestically its opening weekend before ending with over $2 billion in global sales before its theatrical run ended.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is scheduled for a Dec. 15 release.
